Whether you are coming for birding, bird watching, or bird spotting, or if you are a walker, rambler or hiker, a wildlife watcher, here in search of the dolphins, whales or sharks, (cetaceans), puffins, seals, otters or even the golden or white tailed sea eagle, the Old Stables is a great place to base yourselves. There are beautiful landscapes and seascapes ideal for painting or to hone your photography skills within minutes of the cottage. There are great spots for fishing or to study aspects of the flora and fauna of the island, maybe to check out the interesting and rare orchids or fungi or the butterfly that only lives on Mull. Due to the lack of major centres of population, the night skies on Mull are very dark this makes it ideal for astronomy. If you are here for the water sports, sailing, kayaking or canoeing then there are launching slipways in Tobermory or at Craignure, or if your craft is small enough you can go in straight off the beach at Glenforsa or Salen, and there are great diving centres at Lochaline (a short ferry crossing from Fishnish, just 5 miles away) or at Tobermory. Mull is steeped in history, the Highland Clearances played a heavy part in the shaping of Mull. Being in the centre of the Island The Old Stables is a good base from which to visit all the historical sites of the Island. Finally, if you are wanting to come and see the Rally in October then you will be in an ideal place to see the starts from Salen, or to follow the Rally around the Island and the service areas in Craignure or Tobermory.
