Duart Castle
The ancestral home of the Clan MacLean, near Craignure - Castle open to the public, also has a splendid tea shop with homemade soup and cakes plus shop. Open April to end of September.

Tororsay Castle
Victorian house/castle near Craignure - Castle open to the public, beautiful gardens, playground for the children, plus access to Mull Railway. Tea Shop and visitor shop. Castle open Easter to end of October, gardens open all year.

Isle of Mull Railway
Mull's only railway - 2km long from Craignure to Torosay. Miniature railway operating steam and diesel hauled trains to Torosay. The train journey is one of great beauty and the 260 mm gauge trains potter slowly alongside the Sound of Mull with extensive views of Ben Nevis, the Glencoe hills, the island of Lismore and the mass of Ben Cruachan, and the journey is completed at Torosay station. The wild flowers along the way can be spectacular, particularly the primroses, wild garlic and bluebells.

Wings Over Mull
Birds of Prey Conservation Centre and visitor centre with daily flying displays. Near Craignure Open daily Easter to end of October. Good range of raptors, owls and eagles.

Tobermory Open Farm
Just outside Tobermory. Great place for children where they can feed the lambs, cuddle a bunny, and use the children's play area. Also has a tearoom plus short woodland walk. Open End of March to October.

Turus Mara
Daily Wildlife and Bird watching trips to Staffa, and the Treshnish Isles. See puffins, seals, gannets, kittiwakes plus many other interesting sights. Trips can include time on Staffa and Lunga plus views of Fingal's Cave. Open April to October depending on the weather - booking recommended.

Ardalanish Organic Farm
Organic farm that promotes an organic way of life. Home of the Isle of Mull Weavers. Visitors can walk around the farm and purchase high quality woven goods, organic Highland beef and Hebridean Mutton from the shop. Located near to Bunessan.

Wildlife and Sightseeing Trip
Peter Hall is an insured Tour Operator and provides a small, intimate tour as they only take a maximum of six people. Regularly spotted are golden eagles, white tailed sea eagles, buzzards, harriers, short-eared owls, divers, deer, otters and seals. Also takes in some of the beautiful scenery around the Island.

Below are some of our favourite places to visit on Mull.
Calgary Bay
Beautiful white sands, machair - clear blue waters - Calgary tea room close by. A great place to sit and watch the sea on an unspoilt white beach. Great for paddling and beach cricket. There is also a grand walk to the old Calgary pier and an abandoned settlement, plus if you are really adventurous a walk to Caliach point. Close by is Calgary Art in Nature an interesting exhibition and woodland walk combined.

Iona - Abbey and beaches
Iona is a unique place but it can get very busy. Visit the Abbey and Nunnery first, then escape to one of the splendid beaches. Best take a picnic. Park at the Columba Centre in Fionnphort.

Ulva
A truly magical place. Take the ferry from Ulva Ferry (where else) and explore this beautiful yet mysterious place. There are a number of way marked walks of various lengths. If you are feeling brave then take your bike. The Boathouse restaurant serves great homemade food. Open mainly Easter to October. If you want to go out of season then you may need to make arrangements with the ferry man. No ferry on Saturdays.

Loch Frisa Eagle Hide
During the Sea Eagle nesting period Loch Frisa has its own hide where you can go and search for the pair of Sea Eagles (Skye and Frisa) who regularly nest there. Open from April - July Booking essential (01688 302038). |
Tobermory Distillery
No whiskey drinker's trip to Tobermory would be complete without a trip around the Distillery. Avoid Scottish public holidays as it may not be in operation.

The Tobermory Chocolate Shop makes and sells its own selections of chocolates. The shop also contains a good coffee shop plus sells chocolate themed gifts. The shop was Edie McCredie's Bus Garage in Balamory. Open all year

Fishing
Mull is great for fishing with many lochs and rivers. Tackle and permits can be obtained from Tackle and Books in Tobermory, and elsewhere locally. Loch Frisa is the largest freshwater loch on Mull, and holds a good number of brown trout. The River Aros is fly fishing only below the Ledmore junction. Loch Aros has year-round stocked rainbow trout fishing. Loch Ba is the other large fresh water loch on Mull, and holds brown trout, salmon and sea trout. There are many other streams and hill lochs throughout the island, including the River Bellart, and the Mishnish Lochs. Sea trout can also be caught in the sea lochs and river estuaries.
Brown Trout Season: 15th March - 6th October, Salmon and Sea Trout: 11 February - 31 October, Rainbow trout and sea fishing are permitted year-round. No Sunday fishing for Brown Trout, Salmon and Sea Trout. |
Mull Theatre
Currently there is no Mull Theatre as a new theatre is being built near Tobermory. However the production company is still thriving and a number of its touring productions can be seen at times throughout the island. Check their website for details.

Mull Pottery
Located either in a small shop on Main Street Tobermory or in a larger shop with good sized bistro style restaurant just outside Tobermory, the Mull Pottery has a great selection of locally produced pottery and gifts.

An Tobar
Located in the upper part of Tobermory An Tobar is the arts centre for Mull and Iona. It offers all kinds of events including: live music, gallery exhibitions, ceilidh evenings, cafe and shop, music and dance classes plus there are great views over Tobermory Bay.

Aros Park
Located just outside Tobermory, Aros Park is a good place to explore and take a picnic. There is a good walk between the Park and Tobermory that passes all around a pretty bay. Many local events take place in Aros Park. |

Wild Isles or Wildlife Week
Held during May this themed event brings together all kinds of wildlife based events including Whale watching, Eagle spotting and guided walks along the shore. |
Mull and Iona Food Festival
Held during September this themed event brings together all kinds of Mull and Iona grown food based events including open days at local organic farms and the cheese factory, local speciality dishes served at local restaurants plus cruises with local seafood. |
Tunnock's Tour of Mull Rally
Held during October. This event totally changes the feel of the Island, however this is not a bad thing. The Rally brings together local and national rally drivers who pitch themselves against Mull's unique roads during 2 nights and an afternoon of spectacular rallying. If you love the smell and sound of engines and to watch cars being driven at full speed around closed roads then this is an event not to be missed. Don’t be put off coming to the Island if you aren't interested in rallying though - there is plenty of room for everyone.

Mull Music Festival
The Mull Music Festival occurs during April and takes place largely in Mull's public houses spread around the island. Musicians and groups from all over Scotland come to Mull with their instruments to join in ad hoc sessions. |
Mendelssohn on Mull Festival
The Mendelssohn on Mull Festival in July, provides an opportunity to enjoy up to ten days of music on the island much admired by Mendelssohn himself whilst visiting in 1829. |
Mull Highland Games
Highland Games are a traditional event held all over Scotland. Tobermory's Highland Games which are held in July have the added attraction of stunning views over The Sound of Mull, Morvern and Ardnamurchan. Competitors compete in events like tossing the caber, and throwing the hammer. Locals plus visiting runners compete in the athletic events, while Pipe Bands entertain and also compete around the field. Scottish Country Dancers of all ages compete on stage for a variety of prizes. With stalls and refreshments this is a great event to watch and be part of. |
Salen Show
Annual Agricultural and cultural show held in August. This is a great family event to come and see. There are sheep, and cows to see, a horse show plus a dog show. In addition there is a Highland Games section which gets the locals going. Plus there is the bonus of a produce tent, beer tent, refreshments and stalls and a dance in the evening. |
Bunessan Show
Like the Salen Show, this is a local agricultural and cultural show but is held in the south of the Island. Usually held in July or August. |
